Abstract

The present translation from Latin to Portuguese of the work of Saint Isidore of Seville is an unpublished translation in the Portuguese language. Some consider it to be by Saint Bede the Venerable. However, it is more credible that it is by the Spanish saint, as it can be found in volume 83 of the Patrologia Latina under the title Mysticorum expositiones sacramentorum seu Quaestiones in Vetus Testamentum. In this work, both as a whole and in part, Saint Isidore seeks to create allegories that, although they may not mean much on their own, contribute to an overall interpretation.

The work is very brief, as the saint warns: "prolonged and obscure discourse is tiresome; the brief and clear is pleasing."
